Energy in a Box at KomTek

The need of new methods and tools to be implemented in the education has increased with the Swedish curriculum (Lgr11), introduced in 2011. At the same time, many schools lack resources to purchase such material. This project aims at supplying teaching material on energy and sustainable development to schools and pupils free of charge.

The project is a continuation of a previous project, Energy in a Box, carried out during 2011 and 2012. A prototype of a teaching material, or tool box, was then developed in collaboration with Mälardalens Högskola. The tool box is full of activities, methods and tools adjusted to the goals stated in the curriculum for grades 4–9. The box also comprises a product for energy visualization, including several electricity meters that can be connected to any electrical appliances to show their individual electricity use.

The prototype box was tested in a number of schools and was highly appreciated by both teachers and pupils. In this project the teaching material is improved and produced in larger quantities to increase the availability. KomTek, the municipal engineering and entrepreneurial school, will constitute the distribution channel to schools and teachers.

The project is financed by Naturskyddsföreningen.
