Humble Designing workshop

Humble Designing is a one-day workshop at the NordiCHI’16 on the 23rd of October in Gothenburg, host by Annelise de Jong, Elin Önnevall, Lizette Reitsma och Stina Wessman from Interactive Institute.

The workshop will shed light on approaches and methodologies towards ‘being humble’ while designing, with a special focus on designing for sustainability. The Interactive Institute team aim to do this by inviting various design practitioners (not only designers) to share their experiences and retrospectively discuss potential valuable examples that have worked. They will present their thoughts on how a reflective practice could add to research.

Rather than present readily approaches, the workshop focus on sharing ideas on how to work with complex issues such as sustainability. A variety of views and experiences can enhance the discussion and be inspirational and sensitizing for researchers in this field.

Central questions for the workshop are:

- How can we reflectively query Design for Sustainability (DfS) approaches, acknowledging uncertainty?
- How would the role of designing in a design team transition towards humbleness?
- How can these multidisciplinary epistemologies and approaches be brought to bear on a research agenda for the area of DfS and HCI?
