Tied to the land or sea and intimately linked to humankind, the Trull
are the faeries of norse myth. In the Under of Gothland the Trull see
themselves as belonging to four different breeds, each with traits and
a history of their own. Three stem from the same dark-elf ancestry, but
the fourth, the Merfolk, belong to an ancient race of beings predating
humankind and meybe even creation itself.
(The small ones under the earth)
This mischievous and magically inclined race of earth-faeries is the dominant
breed of the Under. In the old days they often stole human children to
supplement their thinning bloodlines. Now their territorial race grows
weaker with each generation that cling to their Oath of Silence.

The Nissen are a benevolent gnome-like sub-breed of Small Ones who, in
the old days, defended human families and their livestock from harm. As
punishment for their close association with the hated humans, the Nissin
families are now slaves to the Small Ones and seen as inferior to them
in every way.
Jorme
The undead Bysen are shadowy figures crying in fear and hate in
the midwinter night. In the old days they haunted and hurt humans, feeding
on their fear of the unknown. In the isolation of The Under they turn
their hatred on other Trull or even themselves, seeking pain and fear
as means of escape from their eternal suffering.

Of the proud and noble Merfolk only a handful
remain in the decaying coral palaces of The Under. Once these alien beings
were the sworn enemies of mankind, seducing them and dragging them to
watery graves but in the modern world they have become increasingly distant,
choosing to live out their days in a compicated game of courtly intrigue.
Shoalskerrie,
the Merfolk Ambassador
There are more Trull-breeds, changelings, familiars and wizards in The
Under than can easily be classified. Some have crossed over from other
worlds, others have changed into new shapes and some are older than any
division of Trull-breeds.
