Flow
FLOW is a domestic water service concept that responds to the growing
pressure exerted on our water and sanitation systems by increasing populations
and their water demands, and adverse climatic conditions. Future water
predictions do not paint a pretty picture, and even relatively water-rich
nations must start to implement pre-emptive strategies to ensure responsible
management of this precious resource for the coming decades.
FLOW could be one of these strategies: A service that provides a means
for domestic consumers to monitor their water usage, and are provided
with incentives and techniques to be more efficient with their water:
reducing their impact on the mains water system, and reducing their
water bills as a result.
FLOW would use the emerging technology of interactive television to
visualise water consumption in real-time via a FLOW iTV channel (the
consumption data is transmitted via radio frequencies from remote water
meters connected to each household's mains water in-flow pipe). Through
this iTV channel, customers can monitor and control their water use,
learn how to use less, and become more aware of the importance of responsible
water use with an incentive system to reward those who save water on
a monthly basis.
In addition a series of other FLOW product concepts have been created
that are geared towards increasing awareness regarding water use in
the home.
