It´s all about communication between people, different cultures and between man and machine. In this particular case, the means used is the medium that has become a symbol for today's younger generation – the mobile telephone.

The full potential of the text message has not yet been tested to any significant degree, which is why we have decided to perform further studies and research. The style, mood and energy of the music are determined by the text command. The telephone becomes the metaphorical brush and the text message the colours used to paint a sonic landscape. Each user who interacts with the installation becomes a co-composer. These commands also enable one to listen to a parallel process taking place at another location.

The locations in this case are Acustum in Piteå, Sweden, and the University of Westminster in London. Sound and picture recording in real time will enable the user to see what is happening and to listen to the compositions at the different locations.

With Intelligent Street, we wish to demonstrate the potential of using new technology in an artistic context – representing a new way of creating interactive music in public environments, where the visitor is the co-creator.
