Togetherness is two isolated souls
who are lonely together
Most people know that no one understands what people are saying nowadays: there is no meeting point in discussions and one is never understood, it is two isolated souls who brush against each other. It doesn’t get better than this.
Two artists and one choreographer are scrutinising the concepts of movement and space, and placing these in relation to a very defined production/constellation.
We introduce an observer (the subject), the observed (the object) as well as a 'mediator' (the model). The arrangement is inspired by René Girard’s texts about mimetic desire.
(R.G. is very French; perhaps this is why we are so delighted by his capturing of the menage-à-trois of rivalling desire and the need for this sort of existence?)
It is you, and it is you as you were noticed a few minutes ago, and last but not least, it is SOMEONE ELSE.
The dream-like installation consists of two rooms.
THE OTHER PERSON is in the other room. You are in the first one. Or vice versa.
One becomes two; two becomes three. Space and time seperates you. And the desire to be like the other, to have what the other person has, is reflected in a carousel.
This presentation offers a palimpsest of two human texts. A Beckettian Scenario: Our attempt to seek contact is hopeless, if not laughable. We live on the same planet, sometimes in the same city, but our conditions and situations are disparate. We live in different realities.
Two artists and a choreographer with different approaches and relations to movement, space and image are sharing an evening together for the first time.
Robert Brecevic and Geska Helena Andersson are collaborating with Anna Koch - artistic leader for Weld, a multidisciplinary platform for experimental art in an international context. Anna experiments with dance as an art form and is working to develop the field using her critical and questioning attitude combined with a strong passion for movement’s kinetic and poetic power.
This piece will have its premier performance as a part of node.stockholm – a festival for art and new media that runs from15th January – 15th February 2008 in Stockholm. After the opening of node.stockholm, the installation will be shown by agreement.
