Promoting digital media use in museums in Finland
Museilaboratoriet started in 2005 as a collaboration between the Forum
for Cultural Heritage and three museums in the Swedish-speaking parts
of Finland in order to promote the use of digital media in local
history museums. After the initial concept development, the three
museums decided to collaborate on a common digital database of the
local historic archives.
How it works
This database is accessible on the Internet through a wiki-application,
where students from the local schools and other visitors will be able
to consult the database and add content. Any kind of file can be added
- text, image, sound, film, etc.
In order to limit the amount of material to digitise and present to the
visitors, it will be done at specific intervals in the form of a
web-based exhibition. The pilot project deals with the time of the 2nd
world war and was published at www.museilaboratoriet.fi in March 2007.
In collaboration with: Anne Bergström, Pargas hembygdsmuseum; Katarina Rosenback, Sinikka Norrback and Sara Bondegård, Kilens hembygdsgård; Laura Holm and Linda Blomqvist, Bjärgas hembygdsgård och museum and Staffan Rydegård and Peter Muld, Approach AB.
