VIDEOWORKS AND PERFORMANCES BY KIBLA
Kibla is a multimedia Centre and an Association for Culture and Education in Maribor, Slovenia. KIBLA intensively encourage experimental and specific projects in the intermedia field, introduce creative and practical use of sophisticated technologies in the cultural field whose final (an at the same time utopian) goal is a functional support of working nets that digitalize, present and decentralize cultural Slovenia and Europe.
Digital Commune
Dino and Peter presented the workshop series Digital Commune, that took place in 2006. Digital Commune I combined several informal workshops in the field of multimedia knowledge and creative use of multimedia (audio-visual workshop in connection with live acts - improvised motion and sound/voice).
Digital Commune II presented the ArmPod TROIA (Temporary Residence of Intelligence Agents) project. An art project on the technologies of political control, video surveillance is an outdated model of control. Location tracking of wanted persons via observation is not necessary any longer, thanks to the outstanding progress made in micro- and biotechnology. The human genome databases are becoming a resource for weapon developers and total control fetishists. Future starts the minute you pull the trigger.
Equipped with ArmPods (a close-to-body device that clips to the visitors arm with robotic clamp), visitors had the chance to experience the remarkable mobile sound- and video-streaming system.
Furthermore, the Berlin machine-performance group BBM (Observers of Operators of Machines) was presented. Six artists form the group, people from Germany, France and Netherlands who today live in Lower Saxony. They are accompanied by musicians, architects and software-programmers who work with BBM dependent on what the specific needs of a project are. Determined by their basic material - the machine - the work of BBM always has been focused on technology, scientific research and the social reality of post-war Germany. In more than 50 performances during this period they paraphrased their main topic - the late industrial age and modern capitalism - many times.
Digital commune III titled "WJ-s, web performances in real space and workshop".
DigiSuperStar
Also in 2006, DigiSuperStar, a creative workshop of animated short film was held in Maribor. It provided a systematic approach to the basic knowledge from the field of animated film, all the way from the idea and script preparation to film directing, graphic design, sound equipment and editing. The workshop was especially intended for students and young talents with the potential in the field of graphic design, illustration and sound environment design, for those with vivid imagination and a desire to create their own animated film.
The mentor was an acknowledged Polish director, illustrator and animator, Wojtek Wawszczyk. His incredibly rich opus includes TV ad production for Disney Studios, short film production for Forrests for MTV, collaboration with famous director Joe Pytka and numerous awards on prestigious festivals around the world: Ars Electronica (Linz), Huston Film Festival, SIGGRAPH (USA), Tokio (Digital Art Festival, SICF Open Art Festival).
