Organization/company: Workers Museum, Denmark
Presenters: Jacob Bjerring-Hansen and Kitt Boding-Jensen
Type of project: Web
The Carlsberg brewery, established in 1847, has been selected as a national industrial heritage site by the Cultural Agency, Ministry of Culture. The purpose of the project 'Humlen ved Carlsberg', initiated by the Workers Museum of Denmark, is to communicate the history of this site of national importance in a new and innovative way. This is done by combining different types of media.
The project is 100% web based, and involves creating a website consisting of a 3D simulation of the 33 hectare brewery site, an audio universe with brewery workers telling about their everyday life at Carlsberg, and a knowledge database consisting of digitalized sources, pictures, articles, video snapshots etc. The website is created through a collaboration between museum professionals, a web designer, journalists and professionals from the computer game industry.
The project ensures linking the history of Carlsberg brewery to its physical location, as well as making it a part of the collective memory by communicating it in 3 different ways that are accessible for everyone with an internet connection.
