Summary

The interactive café table is an interactive table suitable for café areas in museums and similar places were one would like to communicate with visitors in a new and innovative way. Under the development of the concept, our aim was to create a natural and user-friendly environment were multiple users could interact with each other and be able to share the content of the screen in an easy and accessible way.

We found an old water-damaged pillar table that we renovated and modified and placed a touch screen in the middle of the table. By making the screen rotatable we created an environment where the users can easily take part of and explore the content of the screen no matter what side of the table they're sitting on.

The table's first application is an image application called "living room" where pictures of living rooms in Stockholm are gathered and put together in an easy and accessible manner. The pictures are mainly from Stockholm City Museum's archive and contain images of interiors of living rooms from different time periods, spanning from the beginning of the 1900's to today.

The table's application is interchangeable and the idea is that the content will be adapted to fit the purpose and activity of the setting where the table is placed.
