Project type
Mobile, location- and tag based communication
Summary
Senior scientist and PhD student Odd-Wiking Rahlff at SINTEF has created a new kind of personal stickers, CybStickers, for connecting a multimodal message (MMS) with a sticker via your mobile phone.
In the NODEM demo - content from the project RENAME by postdoc Dagny Stuedahl, Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo is used to mediate cultural historical material related to artefacts and objects. RENAME is a design based project focused on the digital mediation of research material from the reconstruction of the third Gokstadboat.
Tech spec
CybStickers use optical codes with 32 bit + 13 bit checksum giving an adress space of 4 billion codes. The code is designed for robustness and simple decoding from photos taken with mobile phones with poor optics and no macro focus. The photo of the code is delivered as an MMS payload and then decoded on the MMS server with a 7% error rate. All cybsticker communication is free and is sponsored by Telenor and NetCom for the experimentation.
Comments
CybStickers can at the moment be read by all Telenor-, NetCom- and Chess-subscribers. Other network operators are not yet supported.
