Opening of the Woodbot Pilots at Skellefteå Airport

Today, the installation The Woodbot Pilots opens at Skellefteå Airport. The Woodbot Pilots is a high level industry crossover project and a breathtaking game experience where your body movements are used to navigate around the gaming environment. An 82 inch touch screen with an ultra-modern 3D camera lets you control characters called Woodbots.
However, this is more than just a distraction for those who are waiting for a flight. The installation at Skellefteå Airport is the result of a research project that ties together a number of industries and businesses in the innovation-driven region of Skellefteå.
Interactive Institute Umeå and North Kingdom are two of the main partners in the project. Daniel Fällman, studio director and research leader of Interactive Institute says:
”The application is in many ways unique, not least because it provides insight into how we will interact with our computers in the future. Historically, relatively simple technical solutions have been difficult to use, such as a VCR or a computer. In this project, however, we wanted to do the exact opposite: using a rather complicated technical application and making the interaction simple and intuitive for the user".
The project is funded by the Swedish innovation agency VINNOVA.
