Article on 'critical practice' featured in new book!
The Iaspis Forum On Design and Critical Practice has comprised an exhibition, an international seminar and now a publication The Reader on investigative, speculative and critically oriented design. The project has derived from the exhibition Forms of Inquiry: The Architecture of Critical Graphic Design, initiated and produced by the Architectural Association, London 2007. The book features conversations with Kajsa Ståhl, Maki Suzuki (Åbäke) and HC Ericson; James Goggin (Practise) and Mia Frostner, Robert Sollis, Paul Tisdell and Rasmus Troelsen (Europa); Will Holder and Samuel Nyholm plus Nille Svensson (Sweden Graphics) and Marieke Stolk, Danny van den Dungen and Erwin Brinkers (Experimental Jetset). In other articles and interviews: Vinca Kruk, Daniel van der Velden and Gon Zifroni (Metahaven); David Reinfurt and Stuart Bailey (Dexter Sinister); Emily Pethick, Ramia Mazé, Zak Kyes and Mark Owens.
The article by Ramia Mazé discusses the questions 'What do we mean by "critical"?' and 'Critical of what?'. She discusses different possibilities for criticality within one's own creative practice, within the discipline of design, and towards larger social and political issues in society.
