II City is a collaboration project between Interactive Institute Sonic Studio, University of Oulu and University of Lapland.
By applied research the project will generate new knowledge that enables novel applications which utilize audio modality and physical user interfaces. In this project we combine research on sound, interactivity, design and mobile technology. The project will explore how to use audio based information, innovative user interfaces and new mobile technology to give citizens situation adapted information in their everyday life.
Currently two sub-projects are being finalized; PING and Echo Range
The results from the project will enhance the competitive strength of the regional companies and create technical opportunities for product development. One main purpose for the project is to give opportunity for interregional cooperation between individuals, research groups and companies. In part this is achieved through seminars, workshops and user group involvement in the project.
Three development projects were initially planned; "Painmeter"; a further development of an mobile technology application that let patients communicate their level of pain, "City Guide" aims at integrating technology in urban centre environments and "City Game" that lets people experience their cityscape through a game with audio as a key element.
Part of the project further builds on the University of Oulu Ubilife project.
