Bright times for energy design

The interest in Interactive Instititutes' work within the field of energy design has boomed. "The number of exciting projects and interest from future collaboration partners is growing" says Carin Torstensson, Studio Director of Power. Indeed, the spring has been succesful for Power...

Several applications have been granted
-Power has entered the research project BeAware. BeAware is a 36 month EU project dealing with energy awareness with real-time environments. The kick-off was held in Helsinki in May, where the partners from Finland, Italy and Sweden met.
-Power will participate in Vinnova's program Vardags IT. In this research project, the main goal is to develop user driven energy services. This will be made in collaboration with Mobile Interaction, Svenska Energigruppen, Eskilstuna Energi och Miljö and Snopptorps Villaägarförening,
-An evaluation of a commercialization of prototypes will be made in fall 2008 thanks to sponsorship from Innovationsbron.
-An application from Power to CERBOF have been granted. Within this program, one of Powers prototypes – probably the Energy AWARE Clock – will be installed and reviewed in a number of small houses built by NCC.

Domestic and international exhibitions have been realized
-The 2-year energy exhibition Visual Voltage that starts in Shanghai in October 2008 will include some of Powers' prototypes, i e the Energy AWARE Clock and the AWARE Laundry Lamp. Visual Voltage gives a new view on energy and is made by Interactive Institute in collaboration with the Swedish Institute.
-It has been a succesful participation in the ongoing energy design exhibition SoWatt. The exhibition has attracted lots of international press and over 40,000 visitors. SoWatt will now move from Paris to Berlin.
-Three energy design prototypes will be exhibited for five years at the Science Centre Singapore (SCS) as part of their exhibition on Climate Change. The exhibition is estimated to attract over 4 million visitors over a 5 year period. Every single one can discover and interact with the design concepts Flower Lamp, Power Aware Cord and the Energy Map.
-Power was invited to show some prototypes at a NCC climate day at Tobaksmonopolet in Stockholm, arranged for NCC's top clients. Among the speakers was Göran Persson (former prime minister of Sweden), who said that "the Flower Lamp is truly fantastistic".
-Power has also participated in several local events, for example Power was present at Världsmiljödagen in Eskilstuna; Scenario2 in Västerås, Uppsala and Eskilstuna and The Swedish National Energy Convention in Stockholm.

In order to mark the fall as a new start for the work that lies ahead for Power and to better communicate what is done within the studio, Power will change name to "Energy Design" this fall. More info about this will be posted in August.
