Interactive Salon

Introduction

Interactive Salon was the first ever exhibition and creative forum in Sweden for professional dialogues concerning new technology for museums and heritage sites. The Interactive Salon was a collaboration between EPOCH, Stockholms Stadsmuseum and the Digital Cultural Heritage Centre of Expertise at the Interactive Institute.

Content

Projects from EPOCH, CULTNAT, the Interactive Institute, SICS and Museum of Far Eastern Antiquitites were invited to serve as the cremé de la crème of how new technology and new concepts can improve visitor communication and interpretation at art museums, culture historical museums, science centres and heritage sites.

Within these projects you will find examples of the five main types of digital media technology that have been applied to museum environments:

• Stationary applications

• Spatially-enveloping and large-scale applications

• Internet-based applications

• Portable and mobile applications

• Hybrids between physical and digital objects

The exhibited projects covered a broad spectrum of partner constellations that are made up of government authorities, SMEs, IT companies, foundations supporting projects, museum content providers, heritage sites, media producers and research institutes.

Activities

During the exhibition various collaborative activities took place in the form of evaluations and scenario labs, seminars and workshops. Their purpose was three-fold: to support cultural heritage institutions in their dialogue with other stakeholders, to allow a greater sharing of expertise and to disseminate case studies of successful applications of ICT to cultural heritage.
