Jin Moen (Project Manager)

[ jin.moen @ tii.se; +46 8 633 17 52 ]

Background in modern and contemporary dance as well as engineering physics. Jin did her Master's thesis on haptic (force feedback) interaction in collaborative virtual environments. Her PhD project in Human-Computer Interaction (KTH) focused on using human movement to create interaction between people and computers or computational objects.

"When we design products and systems that are going to be used by people, we need to include people in the design process. Not necessarily as participatory designers, but as main focus for our designs."

"It feels a bit silly to say that my computer (Mac!) is my favourite electricity driven gadget, but it is (together with my router I guess). Or at least it is the most used one. It helps me organise my work and time schedules, read news and stay in touch with friends and colleagues."

Erika Lundell

[ erika.lundell @ tii.se ]

MA in Ethnology and BA in Gender studies. Responsible for field studies and analyse of the text material.

Has former been working with a project about how Stockholm can grow as a socially and ecologically sustainable city. Has also been making an interview research about different branches views on means of control and laws. Has written several essays on live action roleplaying in gender studies and ethnology.

"In this project I wan't to investigate and contextualise peoples understandings of light and heat and how these believes relates to energy saving behaviours."

"My favourite electricity item is the old door bell at my door that gives small blue sparkles when it occaisonally works.

Or maybe it's the toy hack robot that we have att the office who in extreme parodic masculinity gurgle "drop your weapons" when you press a button at it's belly."

Karin Ehrnberger

[ karin.ehrnberger @ tii.se; +46 8 633 17 53]

Industrial Designer MFA
Responsible for design research, idea workshops and visualizing concepts.

Has studied several courses in art and design and graduated 2006 from Konstfack, University Collage of Arts, Crafts and Design in Industrial Design.
Wrote for Master Thesis a theoretical essay on design and gender where she investigated design as a social process. The work also resulted in a visualization of the theory.

"Design is often looked at as something superficial, an eye-catcher. What we forget is that design is a part of a social context, and it is therefore a powerful tool to change peoples understanding. “AWARE” exemplifies this very clear and is a great opportunity to make a change."

"My favorite electricity item is the power drill. With that, I can perform miracles."

Loove Broms

[ loove.broms @ tii.se; +46 8 633 17 54]

Responsible for interaction design research and concept development.

Graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Loove did his Master's thesis in the field of human-computer interaction. He has been working as a freelancing interaction designer producing polemic design prototypes for exhibition environments as well as large scale architectural interactive installations. He is now a PhD student at Power.

His major interest is in how old and new technologies can be used to create environments and objects that challenge our traditional conceptions of them, creating new, more engaging and responsive, places.

“Energy awareness should be lifestyle just like buying environmentally friendly groceries.”

“My favorite electricity product must be anything using radio waves like an ordinary radio, a mobile phone or a wi-fi network. They are all gadgets sending and receiving information trough an invisible world that we can walk trough but not see.”

Sara Ilstedt Hjelm

[ sara.ilsted.hjelm @ svid.se ]

Industrial Designer and PhD in Human-Computer Interaction. Responsible for the scientific quality of the project.

Jenny Bergström

[ bergstrom.jenny @ gmail.com ]

Jenny is a Master student at the Textile department at Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) doing her degree project at the Power Studio. She will investigate how design can raise questions about fear and how a designer can work with or against the culture of fear.

“I see many common denominators between my project about fear and design and the AWARE project. Good examples of this are environmental impacts caused by society, resulting in global warming, and the abstract nature of electricity. These two examples can be linked to very different kinds of fear. ”

Emelie Jutvik

[ emelie.jutvik @ gmail.com ]

Emelie is Master student in Engineering Physics at Luleå University of Technology. She is at the present working with her Master thesis in the AWARE project which will focus on the relation between water and electricity use in households.

“Many people need to be more aware of what energy is and its relation to electricity. My aim with this Master thesis is to contribute to the AWARE project with a more in depth understanding of the relation between water and electricity use. I hope that my work can then be used as a base in later work to make people more attentive of their energy use.”

“My favorite electricity item is my one and only white beauty, my MacBook. I don´t go anywhere without it!”

Pau Francia Payàs

Pau is a Master student in Industrial Engineering specialising in product Design, at Tech. University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. Pau will carry out his Master's thesis workwithin the AWARE project during spring 2007.
