1.3 Hidden layers of history

The blast furnace hall in its current state is a very dark, mysterious and dangerous environment. This powerful atmosphere is worth preserving, and even to be included in the visitor concept of Meta.L.Hyttan.

The stone walls of this awe-inspiring place have absorbed numerous stories, were witness to tragedy and accidents, they are a the embodiment of Swedish industrialization during the 1800s.
Most of the build construction of the blast furnaces still remains, while some of the more delicate installations have been scrapped and dismantled.

There are hardly any surviving eye witnesses left from the time of its operation, only scarce reports of the work and living conditions exist on record. Meta.L.Hyttan will be a place, where the stories beyond the pure science of steel manufacturing becomes visible.
In that role it becomes an important place for the collective memory of the local population in Avesta.

This proposal should includes both researched facts about the old steel works at Avesta, but also more speculative assumptions on the living and working conditions of the contemporaries of this historic place. Some of the details and stories are taken from comparable plants of the same period, to revive the place, its people and scenes from the steel production.
